In January 2013, The Liberty Parks and Recreation Department was selected as the second nationwide “beta site” for the Healthy Communities Surveillance and Management project in conjunction with GP RED. This three year project aims to create strategic concepts for improvement in the fight against childhood obesity with a specific focus on policies, funding, physical assets, programs and services that influence health and fitness levels of youth ages 10-14 years. Partnering with the Liberty Parks and Recreation Department in this special project are Liberty Public Schools, Clay County Public Health Center and Liberty Hospital.
